The town/city takes its name from the adjoining Suisun Bay, which in turn is titled for the Suisunes, an indigenous tribe of the area.

Suisun City is positioned at 38 14 42 N 122 1 1 W (38.244863, -122.017048). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 4.2 square miles (11 km2), of which 4.1 square miles (11 km2) is territory and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km2) (1.39%) is water.

The town/city is adjoining to Suisun Marsh, at 84,000 acres (34,000 ha) the biggest adjoining estuarian marsh remaining on the west coast of North America.

According to the Koppen Climate Classification system, Suisun City has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps. The 2010 United States Enumeration reported that Suisun City had a populace of 28,111.

The ethnic makeup of Suisun City was 10,805 (38.4%) White, 5,713 (20.3%) African American, 196 (0.7%) Native American, 5,348 (19.0%) Asian, 340 (1.2%) Pacific Islander, 2,898 (10.3%) from other competitions, and 2,811 (10.0%) from two or more competitions.

Suisun City was established in the 1850s.

In 1868 1869, the First Transcontinental Railroad connected to downtown Suisun City via the California Pacific Railroad, expanding the region's reach athwart the United States.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Suisun City experienced rapid expansion as the San Francisco Bay Area's suburban ring period to the formerly non-urban Solano County.

Also in the 1960s, Interstate 80 was constructed two miles (3 km) outside the city, effectively moving commercial traffic away from stockyards s and water conveyance.
