Nipomo is positioned at 35 1 48 N 120 29 24 W (35.0300, -120.4900). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the CDP has a total region of 14.9 square miles (39 km2), virtually all of it land.

The 2010 United States Enumeration reported that Nipomo had a populace of 16,714.

The ethnic makeup of Nipomo was 12,281 (73.5%) White, 177 (1.1%) African American, 200 (1.2%) Native American, 421 (2.5%) Asian, 33 (0.2%) Pacific Islander, 2,821 (16.9%) from other competitions, and 781 (4.7%) from two or more competitions.

The Enumeration reported that 16,703 citizens (99.9% of the population) lived in homeholds, 11 (0.1%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0 (0%) were institutionalized.

There were 5,474 homeholds, out of which 2,258 (41.2%) had kids under the age of 18 living in them, 3,353 (61.3%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 686 (12.5%) had a female homeholder with no husband present, 326 (6.0%) had a male homeholder with no wife present.

807 homeholds (14.7%) were made up of individuals and 346 (6.3%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

The populace was spread out with 4,422 citizens (26.5%) under the age of 18, 1,531 citizens (9.2%) aged 18 to 24, 4,058 citizens (24.3%) aged 25 to 44, 4,593 citizens (27.5%) aged 45 to 64, and 2,110 citizens (12.6%) who were 65 years of age or older.
