The first semi-permanent European settlement to precarious in the (now) Dixon region emerged amid the California Gold Rush of the mid-19th century.

One of the first buildings that still stands in Dixon from the 1871 move is the Dixon Methodist Church positioned at 209 N.

Originally, the town/city was titled "Dicksonville" after Thomas Dickson who donated 10 acres of his territory for the assembly of a barns depot following the culmination of the tracks and subsequent relocation of Silveyville to the now-Dixon area.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 7.1 square miles (18 km2), of which, 7.0 square miles (18 km2) of it is territory and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (1.36%) is water.

The 2010 United States Enumeration reported that Dixon had a populace of 18,351.
