The town/city was titled after ranch owner Elias Anderson who granted the Oregon and California Railroad trackage rights and territory for a station. Anderson is titled after Elias Anderson, who owned the biggest land grant in the vicinity.
The town's Anderson River Park sits on part of the initial land grant owned by Anderson. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 6.6 square miles (17 km2), of which, 6.4 square miles (17 km2) of it is territory and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (3.74%) is water.
The 2010 United States Enumeration reported that Anderson had a populace of 9,932.

Now, it is getting many retail jobs, especially with the opening of a brand new Wal-Mart Supercenter athwart the street from the Shasta Outlets in 2006.
